Earth Mysteries - A course for questioning students

Many young people today are searching for meaning in their lives. For some, the search is expressed in their interest with mysteries ... the X-files ... aliens ... crop circles ... the "Face on Mars". For others it means experimenting with 'occult' practices such as séances. Others get involved in crystals, astrology or dream analysis.

The education system rarely enables students to openly explore and learn about these phenomena in a discerning way. Many students dabble in an ad hoc way, unable to find connecting principles ... moving from one 'mystery' to another, possibly causing damage to themselves along the way. These students are ripe for exploitation by cults or other fanatical groups.

There appears to be a need for mainstream educational curricula which examines such phenomena in an open and honest way that acknowledges the larger cultural context. Such a course should empower students to make their own meaning and decisions about such phenomena. By providing students with information, safe experiential activities and open discussion we can help them to discover their own purpose and values to live by.

• Other Earth Mysteries Sites: The term Earth Mysteries, coined in the early 1970s, is today used to describe a multi-disciplined or 'holistic' approach to the study of ancient sites and landscapes. It tends to fall largely outside the accepted range of mainstream research and is generally regarded with suspicion by academics. This site is intended to serve as an introduction to the various aspects of Earth Mysteries as a field of study.
