Buildings in Dreams

Buildings, usually a house, often represent the human body and personality - usually that of the dreamer.

Front of the house - the “front” the individual presents to others

Back of the house - past aspects of the individual’s character

Outside the house - area not very personal

Inner rooms in the house - inner (spiritual?) aspects of the individual

Anything in the house - something in the dreamer - an idea, emotion or experience

Someone else in the house - an aspect of the dreamer represented by that person

Coming out of a house - “coming out” into the world, being more extravert

Rooms in the house - different aspects of the dreamers character

Bathroom - elimination of something old or unnecessary

Kitchen - family concerns, preparation of food for body, mind, soul

Bedroom - private concerns, security, intimacy

Basement/Cellar - instinct, unconscious part of the dreamer

Upper rooms/Attic - mind, conscious thought, spiritual aspects

Dark rooms - unknown parts of dreamer

Cluttered room - areas that need cleaning up

Doors - new experiences, self-discovery, a way out, a solution

Locking the door - self-protection

Forced door, broken lock - protection wasn’t adequate - what came in?

Open door - ready for new experiences, opportunities

Closed door - not ready for that experience

Moving through a door - moving on to new experiences, experiencing a new part of self, new talents, death symbol
