The Dream Journey

The journey is a very common dream theme and is symbolic of the dreamers journey through life.

The following questions and comments may be of some assistance when trying to interpret what such a dream may be saying about the dreamer. Ultimately it is up to the dreamer to interpret a dream looking at the symbols as they see them. A dream dictionary may be helpful but the best dream dictionary you will probably read is the one you write yourself.

The journey theme.

In the dream you may be making a physical journey along a short path or longer road, an emotional/spiritual voyage on a river or the ocean, or some combination of these.

What is the dream saying about the dreamers progress?

Is it an “uphill battle”, a “downhill run/slide”or a “high/low road”? Are there "many turns" to be made, “rough/smooth patches”? Is it a "narrow path" imposing limitations. What colour is the path?

What is the dream saying about the dreamers life?

Is the path through "open fields", fighting its way through a "chaotic jungle", moving through a "barren desert", or in a "fruitful forest"?

What is the dream predicting for the future?

Does the path come to a “brick wall”, a “precipitous cliff”, a “side-track”, a “sharp turn”, a "hill-top" or a place?

Is the dreamer "making their own progress" on foot?

Is the dreamer “going-it-alone”, with a “companion” or “carrying a burden”? Is the dreamer travelling at “a steady pace” or on a “frantic run”? Are they wearing shoes or barefoot? What is the condition of the shoes/feet?

Is the dreamer in a vehicle?

Are they “balanced on a bicycle”, on a “powerful motorbike”, in their “own car”, with others on a "crowded bus", on a “fast train”, making a “long voyage” in a boat or "high" in a plane? If they are in a car (the body?) what does its style, make and colour say? Did the dreamer “miss the bus”, take the “wrong bus” or “try to get off”? Was the vehicle “over-loaded” or in an “accident”? Was the dreamer unable to stop, unable to steer, a “passenger” or a “back-seat-driver”.
